2000AD Heroes & Villains:Marlon Shakespeare aka Chopper
Pt.1:Unamerican Graffiti(Progs206-07,4Apr-11Apr’81).The ultimate 2000AD anti-hero:a thrill-seeking,risk-taker with a healthy disregard of authority and a desire to stand out from the monotony of life in a city of 400 million,that has 90% unemployment.
Wanting more from his existence than washing dishes like his mother,or heading eggs into a basket after his father,young Marlon Shakespeare starts his lawless career by becoming a graffiti artist or wall-scrawler.
Leaving the mark of a smiley face and calling himself Chopper,soon his exploits are becoming ever more daring.So when a new scrawler appears going by the tag of Phantom,Chopper gets involved in a City-wide game of one-upmanship against his rival(who it is revealed is a rogue spray-paint robot),eventually triumphing by tagging the Statue of Judgement!
Unfortunately,Chopper is arrested by Judge Dredd and jailed for his acts of vandalism,though this just fuels his hatred of authority and is just the beginning of his story…
